چکیده

Powell-Sabin splines are piecewise quadratic polynomials with global C-continuity. They are defined on conformal triangulations of two-dimensional domains, and admit a compact representation in a normalized B-spline basis. Recently, these splines have been used successfully in the area of computer-aided geometric design for the modelling and fitting of surfaces. In this paper, we discuss the applicability of Powell-Sabin splines for the numerical solution of partial differential equations defined on irregular domains. A Galerkin-type PDE discretisation is derived, and elaborated for the variable coefficient diffusion equation. Special emphasis goes to the treatment of Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Finally, an error estimator is developed and an adaptive mesh refinement strategy is proposed. We will illustrate the effectiveness of the approach by means of some numerical experiments.

Multigrid methods with Powell-Sabin splines

We present a multigrid algorithm for the solution of the linear systems that arise from a finite element discretization of second order elliptic partial differential equations with Powell-Sabin splines. We show that the method yields a uniform convergence independent of the mesh size.

Isogeometric analysis with Powell-Sabin splines

This paper presents the use of Powell-Sabin splines in the context of isogeometric analysis for the numerical solution of advectiondiffusion-reaction equations. Powell-Sabin splines are piecewise quadratic C functions defined on a given triangulation with a particular macro-structure. We discuss the Galerkin discretization based on a normalized Powell-Sabin B-spline basis. We focus on the accur...

Powell–Sabin splines with boundary conditions for polygonal and non-polygonal domains

Powell–Sabin splines are piecewise quadratic polynomials with a global C1-continuity, defined on conforming triangulations. Imposing boundary conditions on such a spline leads to a set of constraints on the spline coefficients. First, we discuss boundary conditions defined on a polygonal domain, before we treat boundary conditions on a general curved domain boundary. We consider Dirichlet and N...

Numerical solution of nonlinear SPDEs using a multi-scale method

‎In this paper we establish a new numerical method for solving a class of stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) based on B-splines wavelets‎. ‎The method combines implicit collocation with the multi-scale method‎. Using the multi-scale method‎, ‎SPDEs can be solved on a given subdomain with more accuracy and lower computational cost than the rest of the domain‎. ‎The stability and c...

An Efficient Numerical Method to Solve the Boundary Layer Flow of an Eyring-Powell Non-Newtonian Fluid

In this paper, the boundary layer flow of an Eyring-Powell non-Newtonian fluid over a linearly stretching sheet is solved using the combination of the quasilinearization method and the Fractional order of Rational Chebyshev function (FRC) collocation method on a semi-infinite domain. The quasilinearization method converts the equation into a sequence of linear equations then, using the FRC coll...
